Graduate Study Scholarships

Maryan E. Reynolds Scholarship: The Washington Library Association awards one or more Maryan E. Reynolds Scholarships annually, to WLA members who are enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLIS degree program and have completed at least one semester or quarter. The scholarships are up to $6,000 per recipient. Applicants are evaluated based on demonstrated potential for leadership in the profession and commitment to libraries and library service.

Winner announced: October 23, 2017

Scholarship winners will be recognized November 3, 2017 during the WLA Business Lunch & Awards Meeting at the 2017 WLA Conference.

Division and Section Scholarships

School Library Division

Memorial Scholarship: $1000 to an educator holding a bachelor’s degree toward a Library Media Endorsement or a higher degree in a library information field.

Laura Hahn Scholarship: $1000 to an educator who has been accepted into a graduate degree program in a library related field.  The recipient must plan to work at least one additional year in a Washington school library. 

John Stanford Memorial Scholarship: $1000 to a current or prospective teacher librarian who is an ethnic minority. Can be used toward Library Media Endorsement, or towards a graduate degree in the field.

Eleanor Ahlers Scholarship for Professional Development: $1000 to an experienced librarian (3 years) and WLMA member toward an advanced degree or graduate level study in a library field, or planned individual research related to school libraries.

Sharon Bates Professional Growth Scholarship: $500 or $1000 to a current teacher librarian and WLMA member toward participation at a local($500) or national($1000) library-related conference or workshop.

Denny Bond Library Paraprofessional Scholarship: $500 or $1000 to a current school library paraprofessional toward participation at a local($500) or national($1000) library-related conference or workshop.
