2027 WLA Elections

Are you ready to make a difference for libraries across Washington? The 2027 WLA leadership elections are your opportunity to help guide the association's direction, advocate for the profession, and support library workers and communities throughout the state. Whether you're a seasoned leader or stepping into a leadership role for the first time, we encourage you to get involved and lend your voice to WLA's future.

Nominations open August 26th. Please read below and nominate here!

 

Elections Timeline

  • Wednesday, August 26 — Nominations open (may nominate self or others)
  • Wednesday, September 23 — Nominations close
  • Wednesday, September 30 — Online voting opens
  • Wednesday, October 14 — Online voting closes
  • Monday, October 19 — Election winners notified
  • Wednesday, October 21 — Election winners announced

Elected Officers: All WLA Members Elected to the Board of Directors are expected to attend the Board Retreat in December 2026.

If you have questions about any position, you may contact the WLA Office. Please note that WLA Committee Chairs are appointed by the Board President and do not need to go through this election process.

Terms of office begin Jan. 1, 2027, and are one year, unless otherwise noted.

WLA Board Positions

The below positions are open in 2027 and will be elected by the entire WLA membership.

  • Vice President/President-Elect (elected annually, serves later as President, then Past President, voting member)
  • Treasurer, (two-year term, elected in even number years)
  • Board Director, Academic Libraries Representative (two-year term, elected in odd-numbered years, voting member, candidates must be a member of the Academic Library Division)
  • Board Director, Special Libraries Representative (two-year term, elected in even-numbered years, voting member, candidates must be a member of the Public Library Division)
  • Student Representative (elected annually, one-year term, non-voting/ex-officio member)

The below positions are open not open in 2027. For those that wish to run for Vice President/President-Elect, we encourage you to also read the position descriptions for President and Immediate Past President.

  • President (assumed by the Vice President/President Elect, serves later as Past President, voting member)
  • Immediate Past President, (assumed by the President, voting member)
  • Secretary, (two-year term, elected in odd number years)
  • Board Director, Public Libraries Representative (two-year term, elected in odd-numbered years, voting member, candidates must be a member of the Academic Library Division)
  • Board Director, School Libraries Representative (two-year term, elected in even-numbered years, voting member, candidates must be a member of the Public Library Division)
  • ALA Councilor, (three-year term, next elected in 2027)

WLA Division Positions

The below positions are open in 2027 and will be elected by Division members. Additional steering committee positions may be appointed by the incoming Chair. If you're interested in additional opportunities in a Division, view the Division Chair roster to contact the leadership of that Division. WLA Section Positions

The below positions are open in 2028 and will be elected by Section members. Additional steering committee positions may be appointed by the incoming Chair. All position descriptions are the same for each section. If you're interested in additional opportunities in a Section, view the Section Chair roster to contact the leadership of that Section.

WALT will be looking for a new Co-Chair for 2027, who would transition into Chair in 2028. This every-other month meeting schedule allows for connection, yet a reasonable meeting commitment for most. We currently meet on a Tuesday from 2:00pm to 3:00 pm. Dates:
