2021 WLA Elections Are Open

Current WLA members, please take a moment to vote for our 2021 Board, Division, and Section leadership! Voting is open August 26–September 23, 2020.

Step 1: Read through the candidate statements.

Step 2: Vote using our online ballot.

To access the voting form, you will need to log in to your WLA account. All current WLA members may vote for WLA Board positions, and ballots for WLA Divisions and Sections are restricted to current members of those groups.

Winners will be announced September 30 in the WLA Wednesday newsletter, and incoming and outgoing leadership will be recognized at the Awards Lunch on October 8 during the virtual 2020 WLA Conference. The new elected terms will begin January 1, 2021.

2021 Elections Timeline

June 17 – nominations open (may nominate self or others)
Aug 19 – nominations deadline
Aug 26-Sept 23 – online elections are open to all WLA members
Sept 29 – election winners notified
Sept 30 – election winners announced in WLA Wednesday newsletter
Jan 1 – new leadership terms begin

Nominations opened June 17 for all vacant 2021 WLA leadership positions, from the WLA Board of Directors to our Division and Section steering committees. If you have questions about any position, you may contact the WLA Office, or go the the current Board, Division, or Section roster to find contact information for the person that currently fills the position, or to whom the position reports. Please note that WLA Committee Chairs are appointed by the Board President and do not need to go through this election process.

Terms of office begin January 1, 2021, and are one year, unless otherwise noted.

To nominate yourself or another WLA member, please fill out the nomination form by August 19, 2020, with the candidate's name, employer or connection to libraries, email address and phone number.

All candidates must complete the following three candidate questions in the nomination form and provide a headshot photo. Your answers will be used to create your candidate statement. Please submit your head-shot photo to the WLA Office via email at [email protected] by August 19, 2020.

  • What skills and experience would you bring to the position you are seeking?
  • What past involvement have you had with WLA?
  • Where would you like to see WLA and the Division/Section in the future, and what would you do to move it toward that vision?

WLA Board Positions

The below positions are open in 2021 and will be elected by the entire WLA membership.

  • Vice President/President-Elect (elected annually, serves later as President, then Past President, voting member)
  • Treasurer (two-year term, elected in even-numbered years, voting member)
  • Board Director, Academic Library Division Representative (two-year term, elected in even-numbered years, voting member, candidates must be a member of the Academic Library Division)
  • Board Director, Special Library Division Representative (two-year term, elected in even-numbered years, voting member, candidates must be a member of the Special Library Division)
  • Student Representative (elected annually, one-year term, non-voting/ex-officio member)
