The WLA School Library Division provides networking opportunities and professional support for teacher-librarians and library paraprofessionals, administrators, teachers and parents. Together we work to ensure that Washington's students are effective users and producers of ideas and information by providing:

  • support for information and technology literacy instruction
  • reading advocacy for lifelong learning and enrichment
  • equitable access to information resources and services

Latest News and Reports:

The Olympic Library Leadership Incubator (OLLI) began in 2024 as an idea from the Washington Library Association's School Library Division. Division leaders were awarded the AASL ABC-CLIO Leadership Grant to support the creation of OLLI for the 2024-25 school year.

The mission of OLLI is to develop leadership within the school library community in Washington state. Participants will learn strategies to support their schools and communities in a way that shows the indispensable nature of teacher-librarian led library programs through branding, networking, following best practices, and advocacy.

These documents and ideas are intended to help Washington school libraries advocate for their positions and collections when those are threatened.  Although leaders from WLA, WLA School Library Division, ALA and AASL will work with local librarians to respond to job cuts and loss of funding, we believe the greatest impact comes from local librarians, parents, students, another community members leading the effort.
