School Libraries Home

The WLA School Library Division (previously known as the Washington Library Media Association) provides networking opportunities and professional support for teacher-librarians and library paraprofessionals, administrators, teachers and parents. Together we work to ensure that Washington's students are effective users and producers of ideas and information by providing:

  • support for information and technology literacy instruction
  • reading advocacy for lifelong learning and enrichment
  • equitable access to information resources and services

  • Northwest Association of Independent School Librarians' Conference 

    will bring together librarians from across the NWAIS region, for a day of inspiration, networking, sharing of best practices as well as a peek at the future of our independent school libraries. Friday, March 16, 2018 at Hamlin Robinson School in Seattle.

  • Proposed School Libraries Bill HB 2695   Bill Digest: Requires the office of the superintendent of public instruction to examine and report on student access to school library information and technology resources and associated impacts to student success. Creates the school library information and technology office, within the office of the superintendent of public instruction, to:

  1. Assist districts with implementing school library information and technology programs

  2. Increase access for students to these programs

  3. Promote student achievement of the educational technology learning standards.
