WLA Member Profile: Kelly Evans

Q. How do you like your job as Business Librarian at Eastern Washington University?
A. I love my job because I get to help a wide range of users. I not only work with undergrad and grad students but also with community members/alumni who are starting their own businesses.
Q. How long have you been a member of WLA?
A. I have been a member of WLA less than a year.
Q. How have you been personally involved in WLA?
A. I first got involved with this past year’s conference by staffing the registration desk. I am currently chair of the Membership Committee as well as newly appointed to the ALKI Editorial Board.
Q. What does WLA mean to you? How have you benefited from being a member of WLA?
A. I have always been actively involved in state library organizations. While living in NC, I was part of a Business Librarians group through the NC Library Association. I appreciate the opportunity to work with library workers from all types of library venues. I believe that being actively involved in your statewide library organization means helping move community libraries forward and promotes the importance of library work to the state elected officials.
Q. What is your favorite thing about libraries?
A. Helping students with research! Providing services and space that makes users feel comfortable and empowered.
Q. What is the last book you read? Or what are you reading right now?
A. The last book I read was The Book of You by Claire Kendal.
Q. What area of the library stacks do you like to browse in for your own enjoyment?
A. I love browsing in the 300’s (Social Sciences) at my local public library and in the memoirs section too.
Q. Where did you go to library school?
A. Indiana University
Q. Do you have any children?
A. I have a four-year-old daughter named Arwen.
Q. What is your favorite spectator sport?
A. Football!
Q. What is your favorite travel destination?
A. The Oregon Coast
Q. What are your favorite foods?
A. Sushi, Thai, Indian
Q. What is your favorite leisure-time activity, or what do you do to relax?
A. I Zumba to relax!
Q. What is your favorite music?
A. 1980’s pop and Shoegaze.
Q. Is there someone you personally admire and would want to emulate?
A. I personally admire my maternal grandmother. She was a lifelong educator and inspired many to love learning.
Q. What are some words to live by?
A. “Be the change you want to see in the world”
Q. Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
A. I plan to continue my education and gain a graduate degree in Organizational Leadership.
